I need reassurance: If I install to sdcard using the raw image write, insert the card in my N900, then will it boot off the card without me doing anything else?

Or do I have to install uboot? I don't actually want dual-booting. I want to leave my Maemo completely untouched and to try Mer. Quixote 17:27, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi Quixote, yeah, you have to install a method for the N900 to find the kernel you wish to boot. uboot13 is really simple (though it was a bit trickier when using the kernel-power package). If you wish to reset your N900, flashing it with original firmware should do the trick to get the "untouched" property. mmn 13:47, 10 Nov 2012 (CET)

I wish to note that users that are running signed firmwares (my Swedish N9 Magenta for example) are likely to require a signed kernel from Nokia. When downloading with the naviperl.pl script, make sure you choose a correct model. Otherwise flashing the original firmware back onto the device will failed at a bad certificate. mmn 13:50, 10 Nov 2012 (CET)
